Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn about their options to complete DMV tasks. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions that include eligible driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. In the last five years, the DMV has doubled the number of services available online (from 20 in 2018 to 40 today), cut in-office transaction times by two-thirds, removed obstacles so staff can process transactions more quickly, and empowered customers with the tools they need so they can be prepared when they visit an office. The DMV has continued its efforts during the last few years to offer convenient alternatives to visiting a DMV field office, as well as speed up office transactions, which, along with the redirected staff, helps mitigate the impact of the DLPC closures. The additional staff will help to serve the customers who normally would have visited the San Jose DLPC, which will help to keep wait times down and maintain availability of appointments in these offices.
